Coach Drouin’s welcome to the community:
I have been involved with hockey since the early 1990’s. It was an honor to be one of four Seniors selected to be part of the 1991-1992 Hockey Team at Harper Woods Notre Dame the first Fightin’ Irish team to take ice since the 1970’s.
Coaching is about communication and leadership abilities. My love for athletics has allowed me to be a successful coach in several different sports at various levels. I coached football at Grosse Pointe South and North at the Varsity Level. I was the Head 9th Grade Softball Coach at South. I was also a Varsity Baseball assistant at North. I am most proud of the four years I spent as the Head Varsity Coach of Grosse Pointe South’s Lacrosse team.
Whether coaching football, baseball, softball, or lacrosse I have been deeply involved in hockey. Most recently, I have been an assistant coach in the Mt. Clemens Hockey Association. Youth hockey has not only expanded my understanding of skill development and the fundamentals of the sport, but the transitional skills and concepts that need to be the focus of a competitive hockey player regardless of age or level of play.
My coaching values lie strongly on the development of the team and the accountability of the student-athlete. I believe that my coaching skills will be beneficial to the advancement of the hockey program that has a well established tradition of excellence.
I look forward to working with all of our ice hockey athletes and their families through this upcoming season. Please feel free to contact me at Joe.Drouin@gpschools.org with any questions as we move forward this off-season. Thank you for your support to the team and the North community as a whole.
