Game Recap

The Norsemen finished the 2015 season with a hard-fought scoreless tie on the road against the Romeo Bulldogs. The Norsemen played at a high level the entire game, despite having only 12 players available.

Zach Page played another outstanding game in the net and put on a goalkeeping clinic by making several timely saves.

Tri-captain Kuvin Satyadev scored what seemed to be the go-ahead goal in the second half, but a controversial offside call by the officials wiped out the goal for GPN.

Satyadev was also involved in two other scoring chances where in both instances the Romeo goalkeeper knocked him down and off the ball in the penalty area, but in both controversial plays the officials did not award penalty kicks.

The defense played outstanding as they repeatedly stood up to Romeo’s attacks. Tri-captain Andrew Hallam once again served as the defensive anchor in the middle. James Lazarus played solidly at his right fullback position, and Nate Truss played his best overall game of the season at left fullback. Stavros Hedglin was solid in the defensive stopper position and cleared many potentially dangerous balls.

The midfield controlled much of the game thanks to solid playmaking by tri-captain Philip Valentic and Patrick Thompson. Outside midfielders Satyadev and Carter Roberson made terrific charges at the defense and setting up several scoring chances for the Norsemen.

Jahlil Murphy, Tommy Hartzell, and Ralpheal Coty played solidly at the forward and midfield positions the entire game.

The Norsemen finish the season with 3 wins, 3 ties, and 11 losses in the very tough MAC White division. First-year coach Sal Giacona gave great praise to his entire team for a solid effort in their final game and for competing hard all season long.

The team will be reunited one final time on Wednesday November 11 for Sports Awards Night at GPN.

Game Recap

GPN lost at home 2-1 to rival Grosse Pointe South. The Norsemen took the lead early in the game thanks to a great run and shot by Carter Roberson, his second goal in two games for GPN.

However, South was able to tie the score later in the first half after a defensive miscue by the Norsemen. The score was tied at 1 at the half.

South scored their go-ahead goal in the second half thanks to another defensive lapse by the Norsemen. That’s how the game would end, 2-1 South.

The game marked the first contest in a triple-header of games between GPN and GPS for the annual Wounded Warriors event.

The Norsemen have one game left on the schedule this season. They’ll travel to Romeo on October 20.

Game Recap

To say Thursday’s victory against Warren Cousino was a total team effort would be an understatement. The Norsemen completed their undefeated league season in style with a 31-20 victory over the Patriots. It was an impressive performance from start to finish. The Norsemen struck for a touchdown early in the second quarter and later PK/LB/FB Nik David kicked a 25 yard field goal as time expired in the first half. North led at halftime 11-0.

The second half was an offensive explosion by both teams. North began the scoring with a long TD run by Thomas Haggerty but missed the extra point. Then Dominic Van Doorne connected with KJ Williams late in the 3rd quarter with a 31 yard strike and North led 24-0 going into the 4th quarter.

Cousino responded with 2 TD’s in the first six minutes of the final quarter but GPN’s Frosh squad responded with a 49 yard drive capped off by a 1 yard Thomas Haggerty TD run. Cousino scored a late TD but North thwarted a “hail mary” attempt and took a 31-20 victory for a perfect 5-0 MAC Blue Division record and go to 5-3 overall for the year with 1 game left on the schedule.

It’s also important to mention the great job our scout teams did during the week to prepare our offense and defense for what they would see in the game. Nick Beard, Ross Fowler, Frankie Lucido, Dominic Van Doorne and Lavell White were instrumental in our success this week. They were a huge part why we came out victorious.

The GPN 9th graders wrap up the season at home next Thursday (10/22) vs. the St. Clair Saints. Game time is 4 pm.
