Grosse Pointe North has experienced, full-time athletic trainers tending to the needs of our student athletes.
Currently, our full-time Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) provides sports medicine services to our high school. These services include, but are not limited to:
- Injury evaluation
- First aid and primary emergency care
- Rehabilitative exercise prescription
- Preventative stretching programs
- Facilitation of specialized medical care
- Consultation on our programs’ strength and conditioning
- Post-injury/postoperative rehabilitation
- Determining return-to-play eligibility after injury
- Mentoring of students interested in medical professions
Our athletic trainer is dedicated to maintaining the health of the Norseman student athlete through many of the services listed above. She enjoys working closely with the student athletes, parents, coaching staff, medical professionals, and faculty in order to effectively provide efficient medical care to our Grosse Pointe North student athletes.
Grosse Pointe North has a partnership with the St. John’s for support of our athletic trainers, coordination and staffing of our summer pre-participation physicals, assistance with injury prevention and health promotion programs, and facilitation of efficient sports medicine care for our student-athletes.
Grosse Pointe North has access to a team physician with a specialized background in sports medicine. While we have a full time athletic trainer who takes care of the majority of sports related injuries, there are some injuries that require collaboration with a physician. Dr. Mark Bergin of St. Clair Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine PC works with our student athletes and has a good relationship with our athletic trainer, Sarah Florida, to keep her updated on the athletes status.
